The Holy Family with a Little Bird by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo

The painting is one of the best known and most important of Murillo. It is an intimate religious family scene, representing the style where Murillo was most at ease.
The work depicts the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and the baby Jesus with a bird in the hand that shows the little dog. It is clear that it is a religious scene, but on this occasion, murillo wants to show a more realistic family scene, with the total absence of divine entities such as angels or doves.
The original measures 144 x 188 cm and is housed in the “Museo del Prado”.
