Garden at Sainte-Adresse by Claude Monet

Oil reproduction on canvas of “Garden at Sainte-Adresse”, by Claude Monet. The painting was painted at the Sainte-Adresse spa in the summer of 1867. It is a landscape with sea in the background.

In the painting Monet it represents the bourgeoisie’s rest in front of the sea as opposed to the activity of the ships on the horizon.

The painting depicts Monet’s father, Adolphe Monet. It is believed that Monet was spending the summer with his family to ask for economic help, since he did not sell many paintings and had Camille in Paris pregnant and without money.

The work can be found at the “Metropolitan Museum of Art” in New York. It was acquired by the museum at auction in 1967 for 588,000 pounds.

It measures 98.1 x 129.9 cm.
