Art in your home
August Macke was an expressionist painter born in Meschede (Germany) in 1887. He spent most of his artistic career in Bonn. In Paris, where he travelled in 1907, he met the Impressionists and their work, which logically influenced his painting. In 1910 he met Kandinsky and for a time he shared the ideas of the German expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter, although the artist who most influenced his painting was the French painter Robert Delaunay.
Macke died prematurely in 1914, fighting in France during the First World War.
