Art in your home
Amedeo Clemente Modigliani was a painter and sculptor born in Livorno, Italy, in 1884. He was best known for his portraits and nudes with long faces and bodies. Strongly criticized at the time for his style, in the end he was described as one of the great artists of the twentieth century.
In 1906 he travelled to Paris, at the time, the centre of European artistic life, where he was influenced by Toulouse-Lautrec, Cézanne and Picasso. From 1909 to 1914 he dedicated himself exclusively to sculpture, saying that he was a sculptor, not a painter. The sculpture will influence his pictorial style, since it tends to reduce the light-dark, trying to simulate a sculpture.
He had health problems from alcohol and drugs.
After his death in 1920, his sculptures and paintings were revalued. In 2015, his work “Nu Couché” reaches the price of 170.5 million dollars at Christies.
